There are 23 secondary schools in Potsdam. There are 12 comprehensive schools - 11 of which are operated by the city and the Freie Waldorfschule - independent Waldorf School. Seven of these are all-day schools. Four comprehensive schools provide primary lessons and five have secondary department education as well.
The young people may decide which of the seven grammar schools in Potsdam they want to attend - five of them are operated by the city administration, the others are the Protestant Grammar School of the Hoffbauerstiftung (Hoffbauer foundation) and the Schiller Grammar School Potsdam, which are both run independently. There are also two intermediate schools which are operated by the city. In addition, there is an international school in Kleinmachnow.
