Institute for Applied Research for Family, Children and Youth

The Institute for Applied Research for Family, Children, and Youth (IFK) at the Potsdam University is a legally and financially-independent research institute which is supported by a non-profit association, and is recognized as an independent organization for the promotion of youth welfare throughout the entire state.

The institute has diverse tasks. It conducts investigations regarding the situation of families, children, and teenagers, of road safety, and on questions of school, and social and early education. The institute provides policy advice concerning social, family, education, and transportation matters on the basis of solid and methodically applied social and educational research. The institute also prepares expert reports in all these areas. Model projects are created for work in the fields of family, youth welfare, school, and road safety. In addition, it offers help for families in cases involving problems in partnerships or child-raising, and also for day-nurseries and family consultation offices. It prepares studies on the usefulness of products for children and young adults, and on the consumer practices of young people. Further training program are carried out for institutions, associations, and individuals who are employed in the fields of family, children, and youth.
