More than 18,000 Potsdamers are members of sports clubs in Potsdam. The range of sports is wide and stretches from the leisure-time football player to the Olympic champion. Our canoeists, track and field athletes, oarsmen and women, swimmers and judoists have spread the reputation of Potsdam as a city of sports around the whole world.
Traditional competitions such as the Sparkasse "Prussian Mile" run — sponsored by a savings bank – the pole jumpers’ meets, and the numerous Sanssouci Cups always attract many active sportsmen and enthusiastic spectators. The city has also made its name as a welcoming host in the field of sports.
