Freshwater Fishery Institute

Which fish live in our lakes and rivers? When, where, and how are they permitted to be caught or stocked? Which species are the most endangered? What feedstuff is best for optimal growth, and how can fish diseases be prevented?

These are only a few of the many questions which the Institute of Freshwater Fishery seeks to answer. In this context, both investigations of the fish population and the properties of the fresh water itself are carried out, as well as experiments in the laboratories and aquaria in the institute. Training and learning, development, and research have been conducted here for some 80 years on behalf of the fishery.

The Institute works out the fundamental scientific principles for the preservation and exploitation of the fish in lakes and rivers. The analysis of the economic aspects of the fishery industry are carried out, in addition to the formation of ecological problems. Fish production, for example in ponds, is scientifically observed, quality analyses are carried out, and marketing questions are discussed.
