As part of the guest performance series Global Bodies
Brazilian choreographer Lia Rodrigues never fails to impress with the urgency of her pieces. They are immediately physical, speak the language of deep humanity, and address fundamental issues of coexistence and the environment. In her new piece Borda, she creates an image of a shared future in which the borders are less boundaries than transitions.
Derived from the Portuguese word ‘bordar’ (to embroider), Borda stands for the tension between separation and connection. The word symbolises visible borders as well as invisible thresholds that shape identities and at the same time open up spaces for creative dialogue. In a figurative sense, “borda” can also mean: imagining, dreaming, fantasising. Imagination intensifies dreams, fables, mirages, creation – and gives us the opportunity to cross borders.
After the show on Thu June 12: Talk with the artists
