The Municipal Music School Potsdam, with over 3,000 students, is one of the largest music schools in the state of Brandenburg. Founded in 1952, it has been under municipal management since 1990. Our music school is open to all music enthusiasts and those who wish to become one. It is a place of lifelong learning, where the joy of making music is combined with a high level of expertise and noticeable quality.
Our focus is on musical education, elementary music pedagogy, as well as instrumental and vocal individual and group lessons.
A particular emphasis is placed on ensemble playing, with several choirs and orchestras, various singing groups, mixed music groups, bands, and many forms of chamber music, all tailored to specific age groups and skill levels.
Through collaborations with general education schools, we engage entire schools in singing: JEKISS – the singing primary school, and we make music with whole classes: "Klasse Musik für Brandenburg".
A unique feature is the JamMBoxX, developed in Potsdam. In the creative sound studio at the Am Stern campus, children and young people meet every week to write and record their first original songs and lyrics under the guidance of the JamMBoxX team. Most of them have never made music or played an instrument before.
The Municipal Music School Potsdam is a member of the Association of German Music Schools and is an accredited music school in the state of Brandenburg. We regularly showcase our ensembles in public performances throughout Potsdam.
