The state capital Potsdam takes the protection of your personal data very seriously. With this data protection statement, we would like to provide you with an overview of how the state capital Potsdam ensures the protection of your data, what types of data are collected for what purposes, and how they are used. With each access of a user to a webpage of the state capital Potsdam and with each download of a file, data about this process is stored in a log file.

Specifically, the following data set is stored for each download:

  • Name of the downloaded file
  • Date and time of download
  • Amount of data transferred
  • Notification of whether the download was successful
  • Description of the type of web browser used
  • IP address

We collect and process this data to ensure the smooth operation of our website and to detect, prevent, and investigate any misuse of our services. Furthermore, we use the collected data for statistical purposes, such as evaluating which devices and browsers are used to access our platform, in order to adapt and improve our offerings based on user needs. The stored data is only evaluated for statistical purposes. There is no transfer to third parties.

Usage Statistics

With each access of a user to a webpage of the state capital Potsdam, an automatic access to a separate Matomo instance (formerly Piwik) on the Potsdam server occurs. The state capital Potsdam generates statistics from the last five hundred and truncated IP addresses of the computers from which requests were sent. Thus, there is an immediate anonymization of these IP addresses; the log data set is therefore reduced. This data is not personal, and it is no longer possible to trace which user accessed which data. Personal user profiles cannot therefore be created. There is no transfer of personal data to third parties.

Active Content

This website www.potsdam.de does not use Java applets, Active-X controls, or other techniques that serve to track user access behavior.

External Content

  1. The state capital Potsdam integrates external content (e.g., events and hotel bookings). We have no influence over what content is displayed there. The privacy policy of Potsdam Marketing and Service GmbH (PMSG) must be observed, as HTML is directly embedded as an iFrame. For events, we import text and images.
  2. When normal users use a contact form, the address field data is sent.
  3. If users use social media applications, the privacy policies of those applications apply.

Use of Cookies

When using the online services, so-called cookies are employed. Cookies are small text information files that are sent by our website and stored on your computer by your browser during access. You can prevent the use of cookies by disabling the cookie function in your browser.
