Lord Mayor Noosha Aubel

Noosha Aubel was born on December 4, 1975, in Hanover. She is nonpartisan and the mother of two daughters.

She holds a degree in Educational Science (Diplom-Pädagogin) from the University of Cologne and completed a part-time master’s program in Organizational Management at the Institute of Work Science at Ruhr University Bochum. Her master’s thesis focused on the topic “(New) Leadership in the Public Sector – An Empirical Study on Transformational Leadership in Municipal Administration.”

In parallel with and following her studies, Noosha Aubel worked from 1999 to 2004 as an educational specialist at Kinder- und Jugendhilfe Verbund Rheinland gGmbH, where she supported and counseled children, adolescents, and families facing multiple challenges and developed targeted support programs.

Since 2004, she has been active in municipal administration.

From 2004 to 2008, she worked for the City of Viersen, initially as a youth welfare planner and, from 2006 onward, also as coordinator of the Department for Child, Youth, and Family Support. Three years later, she joined the City of Hilden, where she headed the Department for Youth, Schools, and Sports from 2008 to 2017.

In 2017, she was appointed Deputy Mayor for Education, Culture, Youth, and Sports of the state capital Potsdam. In this role, she helped shape the city’s strategic direction in key areas of social development for several years. After her time in Potsdam, she took over as Co-Managing Director of the Berlin Entrepreneurs’ Foundation for Equal Opportunity in 2023, before moving to Flensburg in mid-2024 to serve as City Councillor and Head of the Department for Education, Sports, Public Order, Health, Social Affairs, and Culture.

On September 21, during the mayoral election in Potsdam, Noosha Aubel received 34.0 percent of the vote in the first round. In the runoff election on October 12, 2025, the 49-year-old won 72.9 percent of the vote and has been serving as Lord Mayor of the state capital Potsdam since October 24, 2025.

Education

1997–2002: Studies in Educational Science at the Comprehensive University of Essen and the University of Cologne.
2002: Degree awarded – Diplom-Pädagogin (equivalent to M.A. in Educational Science).
2007–2010: Part-time Master’s program in Organizational Management at the Institute of Work Science, Ruhr University Bochum.
2010: Master of Arts (M.A.) in Organizational Management. Master’s thesis: "(New) Leadership in the Public Sector – An Empirical Study on (Transformational) Leadership Practices in Local Government."
