The Potsdam Fire Department is responsible for fire protection and the safety of approximately 187,000 residents of the Brandenburg state capital. In addition to traditional firefighting operations, it is also responsible for technical assistance, emergency medical services, and disaster protection. The Potsdam Fire Department is divided into a professional fire department and several volunteer fire departments, consisting of around 260 full-time and about 400 volunteer personnel.
The professional fire department is stationed at two fire and rescue stations, one in the city center and one in Babelsberg, as well as a rescue station in Neu Fahrland, and is ready for action around the clock. In addition, numerous volunteers are engaged in a total of 15 local fire departments.
Since May 2019, Ralf Krawinkel has been leading the Potsdam Fire Department. He is supported by Henning Hagen as the permanent deputy head of the department and head of emergency response, and Andreas Tausche as the representative of the department management and head of the regional control center, service, and logistics since spring 2023.
Each year, the Potsdam Fire Department responds to thousands of calls and is available around the clock to assist with fires, traffic accidents, medical emergencies, or in the event of a disaster.
With state-of-the-art technology and well-trained personnel, the Potsdam Fire Department makes an important contribution to the safety and protection of the Potsdam population.
