Potsdam offers a vibrant and diverse classical music scene all year round. Several orchestras enrich the city’s cultural life with a wide range of concerts for every taste.

A central venue is the Nikolaisaal Potsdam, home to the Kammerakademie Potsdam since 2001. This renowned chamber orchestra performs classical and contemporary works, collaborates with international stars, and offers educational programs for all ages. It also appears at the historic Schlosstheater in the New Palace and co-produces the Potsdam Winter Opera with the Hans Otto Theater.

Other notable ensembles include the Deutsche Filmorchester Babelsberg, Germany’s only professional film music orchestra, and the Collegium musicum Potsdam, which performs symphonic repertoire from Romantic to modern. Young talent is nurtured in groups like the Junge Philharmonie Brandenburg and the Youth Symphony Orchestra (JSO).

The Neue Kammerorchester Potsdam, founded in 2000, is known for its broad repertoire and international collaborations. Guest performances, recordings, and educational outreach have earned it acclaim far beyond Potsdam.

With unique ensembles such as the historic Police Orchestra of Brandenburg, Potsdam’s classical music landscape blends tradition, innovation, and international flair.
