All residents of Potsdam have the opportunity to participate in decisions regarding the budget of the state capital. They can make proposals, provide suggestions, and engage in discussions. Two alternating participation offers are available for this purpose.
Citywide Participatory Budgeting
The goal of the citywide participatory budgeting is to identify the 20 most important citizen ideas through public voting based on all proposals. These will be submitted to the City Council for discussion and decision-making. Afterward, reports will be provided on the implementation of the approved ideas. To give everyone the opportunity to discuss based on concrete figures, interested parties will receive the key information about Potsdam's budget situation.
Decentralized Citizen Budgets
Funding creative ideas, organizing events in the city or neighborhood, planning open workshops, setting up benches, and planting trees and colorful flower beds—this and much more is possible with Potsdam's citizen budgets. Cultural, sports, and social projects are sought, as well as suggestions for voluntary engagement in shaping the city. The aim is to shape the immediate living environment through a competition of the best ideas. A guideline amount of 5,000 euros applies to each proposal. Interested individuals are encouraged to submit their ideas to cooperation partners throughout the city and to vote on the submitted measures and ideas.
