Choirs have a long tradition in Potsdam. It all began in 1814 when the "Choral Society for Classical Music" was founded, and after passing through many phases, has finally became the Singakademie Potsdam e.V. - the Potsdam Singing Academy Foundation - which offers a variety of choirs. However, there also exists a broad choice of choirs in cultural facilities and at schools, whose concerts contribute to the musical life in the city and offer the opportunity for adults, teenagers, and children to participate and demonstrate their artistic talents. The choirs are the city's musical ambassadors, who represent Potsdam at national and international events.
