It's only a stone's throw from the Brandenburg state capital Potsdam to the Federal capital Berlin ... or you can simply go over the Glienicker Brücke bridge. Stroll right across the famous bridge where the two superpowers of the Cold War once exchanged their captured spies, and enjoy the view over the island of Potsdam. The Glienicke garden and palace are on the other side of the Havel river, and are thus already in Berlin. From there, you should also make a short sightseeing stop at the Jagdschloss - the Grunewald hunting lodge - and the palace Schloss Charlottenburg. With its baroque garden, it is still the largest palace maintained in Berlin-Brandenburg.

Of course, once in Berlin you will want to visit the governmental quarter with the Reichstag - the Parliament building - Berlin's world famous Brandenburg Gate, and the Island of Museums. A well-planned system of public transportation brings tourists from Potsdam into the metropolis in short order. For example, the S-Bahn urban railway takes you to the glittering Unter den Linden Straße within 45 minutes. Berlin, with its cosmopolitan cultural variety, is an ideal destination for an exciting day-trip, yet you may easily return in the evening to the tranquillity and beauty of the Potsdam landscape of palaces and gardens.
