There are 14 municipal primary schools and three municipal comprehensive schools with primary departments in the state capital of Potsdam. In addition, children may also attend two elementary schools, which are independently supported. These are the Freie Schule Potsdam e.V. (the Potsdam Free School) and the Evangelische Grundschule Potsdam (the Protestant Primary School). Primary level instruction is also given at the two international schools in Potsdam and Kleinmachnow.
