The Potsdam Center for Research into Contemporary History e.V. (ZZF) is an institute for contemporary history research which is financed by the State of Brandenburg and the German Science Foundation. Historians from Germany, both east and west, work together here, alongside guests from abroad, concentrating on questions of contemporary German history.
The particular focus of their work is on the second German dictatorship in the context of European history in the 20th century. The research work done at the ZZF is directed towards making a contribution to the internal unification by subjecting to discussion the structures for dealing with the dual German contemporary histories after 1945, and the experiences gained thereby. In addition, they also take part in the international discussion of specialists in order to counteract a constriction of the "German question" in contemporary history.
