The Moses Mendelssohn Center for European Jewish studies (MMZ) in Potsdam was founded on the 15th anniversary of the Wannsee Conference in 1992, and named after the philosopher of the Enlightenment, Moses Mendelssohn (1729-1786). The MMZ is an interdisciplinary scientific facility which carries out basic research in history, philosophy, religion, literature, and social science.

The MMZ is an institute affiliated with the Potsdam University and involved in the Studiengang Jüdische Studien/Jewish Studies course. A special emphasis is on the history of the relations between Jews and their non-Jewish environment. The Jewish Studies course is set out to be interdisciplinary and is one of the largest of its kind offered at university facilities in Europe.
