The Nauener Tor is perhaps the earliest building built on the European mainland as an adoption of the English neo-Gothic style. In 1755, Johann Gottfried Büring received a sketch of the gate drawn by Frederick II. When it was re-built in the middle of the 19th century, the connection between the two towers was executed in the neo-Gothic style. The Nauener Tor is adjacent to the Dutch Quarter.
