Alter Markt - the Old Market Square

The Old Market Square is bounded by the Potsdam Advanced Technical College, the Nikolaikirche, the Old Town hall, the Knobelsdorff house and the river Havel. In the middle of the square is an obelisk and the Fortunaportal (the Gate of Fortuna), which was reconstructed in 2002. The Fortunaportal was the entrance to the former Stadtschloß city palace. An arrangement of trees now indicates a part of the palace's ground plan.
