Excellent conditions for development have been created here thanks to extensive investment, particularly for the media industry, with its concentration in the Babelsberg Media City. Television productions and multimedia applications have grown in importance alongside traditional film production work here. Today, more than 3,000 people work in the fields of audio-visual media here.
Films have been produced in Babelsberg for 90 years. The early days saw such milestones of film history as Fritz Lang's Metropolis, and production has continued up to this day.

However, Babelsberg Media City has not been content to rest on its laurels. In fact, the enormous number of small and large companies operating in the most divergent fields - cinema and television productions, multimedia, animation, stunts and special effects, equipment, and postproduction, means that Media City opens up the prospect of unparalleled benefits from synergy. More than 130 companies have established themselves here.

A total of 16 optimally-equipped studios are available on the 46-ha large grounds. The spectrum ranges from the Marlene Dietrich hall, with its wealth of tradition, (it is also one of the largest studio halls in Europe) to fully-equipped TV studios. Ideal production conditions arise from the close proximity among sets, the art department as the supply center, and the offices and operational rooms.

Studio Babelsberg GmbH not only produces film and television pieces. As a full-service studio, it also offers a complete portfolio of production and post-production services.

The new Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) broadcasting station - formed by the merger of the stations Sender Freies Berlin (SFB) and Ostdeutscher Rundfunk Brandenburg (ORB) - is in production here from their ultra modern broadcast center and the new radio building.

The era of digital television has already begun in Babelsberg. The ARD (state television) Play-Out-Center is paving the way for ARD Digital into the digital television era. The new television programs and interactive services are being created in the joint facilities serving all state broadcasting stations.
Office facilities equipped to a high technical standard are available to new media companies, both in MedienHaus in the Center for Film and Television Producers and at the fx.Center.

The Konrad Wolf Academy for Film and Television offers excellent training opportunities in Media City. The Babelsberg Filmpark affords its guests enjoyable and interesting insights into the world of film.
But there are other attractive locations available for media companies as well. In addition to Babelsberg Media, there is the Parkstudios in Babelsberg.
