The state capital city of Potsdam, which has a population of over 140,000 people, boasts a highly-motivated and well-trained labor pool to offer to potential employers. Around 90,000 people currently work in Potsdam, 84,000 of whom are in employment relationships.

The high skill level of Potsdam's work force is an important factor when considering hiring and the labour market. Around 30% of Potsdam's residents hold a degree from an academic or applied science university, while an additional 36% have completed an accredited program of vocational education and training.

Potsdam's economic structure and industrial and commercial profile ensure that businesses can find an excellent pool of skilled workers in, for example, the IT/telecommunications and media/communications sectors. The services sector is another focus of skills and careers among Potsdam's work force. The areas of banking and insurance, real estate, and customer care/call-centers are also worth special mention. Companies find very good conditions and recruiting potential for skilled workers and specialists in all of these areas.

As a top-flight scientific center, the city of Potsdam offers an optimal environment for technology-oriented and research intensive companies. More than 4,000 scientists already work in Potsdam. Potsdam's three universities, with a total of 20,000 students among them, provide a continuous supply highly-qualified workers in the form of their graduates.

The impact of Potsdam's development and vitality has not been restricted to within the city's borders, in terms of the economy. Especially with respect to employment, Potsdam's vigor is benefiting its neighboring communities: more than 38,000 men and women commute into Potsdam from the surrounding region each day.
