The Studentenwerk Potsdam (student union) is a modern service organization which cares for the students' concerns beyond their actual studies.

The Studentenwerk Potsdam is responsible for Potsdam University and four colleges in total: the Potsdam Technical College, the Konrad Wolf College for Film and Television in Potsdam, and the Technical Colleges in Wildau and Brandenburg.

The organization has the following tasks: implementing the BaföG law (a Federal law which determines the conditions and amounts of financial assistance to students), running the student canteens and cafeterias at the university and college sites, renting of accommodations at the dormitories, plus health, social, and cultural care and counselling for the students.

The student welfare organizations are specialists in their tasks. The partnerships between universities/colleges and the student welfare organizations have proven themselves as models for job-sharing in the higher-education system. All the local student welfare organizations are joined together in the national DSW - Deutsches Studentenwerk - German Student Unions.
