Between 1994 and 1995, the Stadt-Spiel-Truppe independent theater company, along with supporters and experts, modified the old barge Sturmvogel - petrel - into a floating theater. The boat is still seaworthy, and since 1998 has sailed on tours across the State of Brandenburg, to Berlin, and even to Poland. The ship's theater hall seats almost 80, and the ship's pub and upper deck have capacities of 45 and 50 seats, respectively.

There are about 25 performances on the boat each month. In addition to their own original productions, the Theaterschiff also holds cabaret, concerts, readings, literary and musical events, film screenings, chanson evenings, and dance presentations. The theater boat can also be rented for company and private events.
